Televison Appearances

GMTV

I have been lucky enough to work with GMTV for 12 years, literally from the time the programme first came on air. As their nutritionist I am asked to go on the sofa and report from around the country commenting on as well as giving advice on nutrition stories and issues in the news. This can be anything from discussing a Consumer Association report on the high levels of salt in breakfast cereals to the rights and wrongs of Beyonce's new weight loss scheme. I have also worked as the nutritionist on all of the eight Inch Loss weeks.

Tonight with Trevor McDonald

Over the last three years I have been asked to present programmes on this great current affairs programme. This has found me zipping to America to interview professors about the possible pollutants found in breast milk to helping Corpus Christie primary school in Brixton, London, swap their school dinners from chicken nuggets to 1940's War time rations. In my latest programme which airs at the beginning of September, we see how two families got on when they did a 4-week 'meal-swap'.

Columns

Times

I currently write two weekly columns for the Times - The Times2 section on Tuesdays and Body & Soul on Saturdays.

The Sun

In my weekly column Fit Squad which I write with fitness expert Nicki Waterman and fashion editor Erica Davies, I report on one reader a week, telling their story of how they have changed the way they eat, got active and given their wardrobe an overhaul. We see readers at The Sun's photographic studios in Wapping once every two weeks and it usually takes 1 - 2 years for each person to shed 2 - 5 stones, at which point they have their make-over and come for a day of pampering and to be photographed. The best bit is when they walk through the door for their make-over and we hardly recognise them because they look so great and happy!

Sainsbury's

As nutrition editor of Sainsbury's monthly magazine I write a page on nutrition news which keeps me on my toes, researching lots of new stories and tips to pass on to my readers. I also write a monthly feature for the magazine. Recently I have written about how to bolster your immune system to get through winter and how chocolate is not all bad!

Harpers Bazaar

Each month in Harpers Bazaar there is a page called The Last Word. It is designed to give the definitive, up to the moment facts on a subject. Recent pieces I have written include The Last Word on probiotics, mineral water and ginseng.

Healthy Magazine

This magazine comes out every other month and is the ins-store publication for Holland and Barrett. Recently I was asked to guest edit the mag' which was great fun. Usually however I write a diet page each edition with all the latest tips and news on weight loss.

Guest Editor for Healthy magazine

For the September and October issue of Healthy I had the honour of guest editing the magazine. Obviously Heather, the real editor was there making sure all the really hard stuff was going on smoothly behind the scenes as usual, but I was asked to oversee the Nutrition Special and roll my sleeves up with this particular section.

Editor for Natural Wellbeing magazine

Last year the company Alpro approached me to ask me to edit two issues a year of a new magazine they wanted to publish. They didn't have a name for it and didn't know exactly what they wanted in it, so from the word go I could really get my teeth in to this project. Although Alpro pay for it's production, they have absolutely no say in the editorial and they are not allowed to sneak mentions of soya milk into the copy! I have learnt a lot about Alpro and admire their ethical stance on farming and production of their products. Once I was happy with this and that they would not stick their oar in and affect the editorial independence, I got stuck in. It has been a lot of hard work but a huge amount of fun and a big learning curve editing this publication which reflects wellbeing from many perspectives including 'being well' in your body, mind and soul. I have great writers including Dr Mark Porter of BBC Radio 4's Case Notes, Carina Cooper of the Evening Standard and our all-time greatest athlete in Britain, Daley Thompson. We have interviewed the Ramseys to find out how Tana deals with Gordon at home, Penny Smith of GMTV to hear her having a rant on thin models and the gorgeous Donna Air to find out why she went organic. It's fun, interesting, funny and hopefully inspiring. The next issue is just out. It is distributed in the Times on Saturday 23rd September, but if you go to www.alprosoya.co.uk you should be able to get a copy.

Panel Membership

I have been asked to join a panel of members including Caroline Flint MP, Minister for Public Health; Julia Unwin of the Foods Standards Agency, Dr David Haslam of the National Obesity Forum and Justin King, the boss of Sainsburys to take part in a day called New Ideas for Health. The aim of the day is to get really involved in discussions with parents about the triggers and barriers to choosing a healthy lifestyle. It's a really interactive day and will hopefully create a better understanding of how we can move forward to help improve the eating habits of children.
